FjölnirGround: Fjölnisvöllur Visits: 1 Date: 22nd June 2013 Match: Fjölnir - Völsungur 2-1 (1. Delid) Attendance: 200
Fjölnir vs Völsungur was the second match of the day for us in 1. Delid. We had to leave the first match, Víkingur Reykjavík vs Haukar, five minutes early or we would have missed most of the first half at Fjölnisvöllur. We arrived at Fjölnisvöllur by 16.07. Fortunately we didn´t miss any goals, still 0-0 after seven minutes. Fjölnisvöllur is a nice football ground, at least when the weather is ok. There is a natural grass bowl on two sides of the ground. The west side has the look of a proper stand with five rows of seats. Some fans were simply lying in the grass watching the match and enjoying the nice weather. I enjoyed the match as well. Fjölnir vs Völsungur turned out to be a good match with plenty of chances and incidents. Völsungur are bottom of the table but played quite well this afternoon. It wasn´t until the 52nd minute Fjölnir could score to make it 1-0. Völsungur then hit the post twice, missed a couple of other chances before making it 1-1. The final 10 minutes were end to and stuff. The Fjölnir goalkeeper collided with a Völsungur player and a long break before both players were carried off. Two ambulances arrived to take the players to hospital and Fjölnir had to put an outfield player in goal. Fjölnir, now down to 10 men, scored the winning in the last minute of normal time. In total it was 10 minutes of stoppage time before the match eventually ended 2-1 to Fjölnir. A dramatic and interesting match for the three groundhoppers present.
