Kristianopel

Ground: Fågelmara Idrottsplats

Visits: 1

Date: 27th August 2022

Match: Kristianopel - Saxemara  2-1  (Division 4 Blekinge)

Attendance: 125

Kristianopels GoIF are top of the table in Division 4 Blekinge and will most likely be promoted. Since 1950 the football club play their home games at Fågelmara IP in Fågelmara which is around 10 km from Kristianopel. Fågelmara is along the route from Kristianstad to Kalmar and I have passed the ground several times in recent years. Kristianopel itself has a population of only 100 or so but founded by the Danish king Christian IV in 1603 Kristianopel was once the easternmost point of Denmark and military fortress. In the 70s and 80s a lot of concerts were held at Masten in Kristianopel and even ABBA once performed there. In 1981 3 people were killed at a stampede during a Gyllene Tider concert which was the beginning of the end for concerts in Kristianopel.

It was yet another warm and humid day in southern Sweden and as I parked my car it was almost 30 degrees. The ground for this level is quite nice with a small stand dug into a hill on the north side. On top of the hill there are trees providing protection from the sun. As kick-off approached there was a decent number of people inside Fågelmara IP and the official attendance was later given as 130. Jonas Lantto has played 200+ Allsvenskan matches for Gefle IF and is nowadays playing for Kristianopel. I don´t know how much of the club's success this season is down to him but he obviously still knows how to play football.

Kristianopel were the better team in the 1st half and by half-time they were deservedly 1-0 up. A Saxemara own-goal meant 2-0 for Kristianopel and I thought it was game over for the visitors but a red card for Kristianopel changed the momentum and with 10 minutes to go Saxemara pullad a goal back. No more goals though and 2-1 to Kristianopel at full-time. Unless something extraordinary happens Kristianopel will be promoted to Division 3 and that will be a big day for the club.
