Lunds SK

Ground: Smörlyckans Idrottsplats

Visits: 1

Date: 19th August 2017

Match: Lunds SK - Olympic  1-2  (Division 3 Södra Götaland)

Attendance: 100

In the 90s I spent 5 years at Lund University and half of that time was at Kemicentrum (Chemical center). A few hundred metres from the building in which I did a lot of experiments there is a football ground, Smörlyckans IP. When Lunds SK were promoted to Division 3 Södra Götaland last year I realized I would once again be back in this area of Lund. From where I live it takes an hour to drive to Smörlyckans IP and at 12.55 (kick-off 14.00) I parked my car outside the ground. There are several pitches at Smörlyckans IP and as I arrived there was a women´s game being played at the artificial pitch next to the clubhouse. My game, Lunds SK v Olympic, was played at the nearby natural pitch and this is a very basic “ground”. There are plenty of wooden benches in the south side but no proper stand. The weather this afternoon was quite nice and as the visitors from Malmö are top of the league they actually brought about half the crowd.

As I understand it this is the first time Lunds SK has played as high as the 5th tier of the Swedish league pyramid. The club has been at the bottom of the table for most of the year but nine points in three games means the club is now out of the relegation zone. With one game more played than second placed Nosaby Olympic are top of the league. Having lost to Nosaby last weekend Olympic really needed to win this game but at half-time it was still 0-0- Olympic were clearly the better team though and after hitting the woodwork twice they could finally take the lead in the 62nd minute they finally managed to score. In the 78th minute they scored again to make it 0-2. Lunds SK pulled a goal back in stoppage time but Olympic could deservedly win this game 2-1. In two weeks time I will most likely watch Olympic again as they travel to Ekevalla in Eslöv.
