Monza BrianzaGround: Stadio Brianteo Visits: 1 Date: 15 February 2009 Match: Monza Brianza - Venezia 2-1 (Lega Pro 1) Attendance: 1 294
The big match this Sunday was of course the Milan derby but with a 8.30 kick-off there was room for another match and we decided to stay in the Milan area, going to Monza vs Venezia in Lega Pro 1 (Serie C). Monza is only a 17 minute train ride from Milan Porto Garibaldi and we arrived in this from F1 so well known suburb by 12.15. We decided to walk to Stadio Brianteo, a walk that took 35 minutes but with yet another glorius day with sunshine and crystal clear air we were awarded with some excellent photo opportunities with snow covered Alps in the background.
Stadio Brianteo has an impressive main stand and must be one of the best ground at this level of Italian football, it wouldn´t look out of place in Serie B. The three other sides are open to the elements (not a problem with this kind of weather!). The stand opposite to us were closed, it seemed it hasn´t been used for quite a while. The 50 or so Venezia fans, to our left, did their best to support the bottom team in this league but with two stunning strikes Monza won by 2-1. All in all a good day out and a nice appetizer for the big match later in the evening!
