Motspur ParkGround: Motspur Park Visits: 1 Date: 25th February 2022 Match: Fulham U23 - Aston Villa U23 2-1 (U23 Premier League Division 2) Attendance: 250 I left England 2 January 2020 and was planning on completing The 92 at Easter that year. For reasons known to everyone that was not to be the case and since then I have been hoping for restrictions to be lifted. When the UK, in mid-February, dropped the testing requirements upon arriving I looked at possibilities and decided to do a Friday to Sunday trip in late February. At 12.30 my BA flight left Copenhagen and a few hours later I was at my hotel near Paddington station in central London. It was a strange, but also nice, feeling to finally be back in the country I have visited so many times over the years. I noticed a number of hotels still being closed for business and the numbers of tourists are still way below normal but I am sure there will be a gradual increase. The main match on this trip was Brentford v Newcastle but first up was Fulham U23 v Aston Villa U23 on Friday evening. Motspur Park in southwest London is where Fulham FC have their training complex and most of their U23 and other youth games are played at the small stadium at Motspur Park. Kick-off was at 19.00 and to enter your name had to be on a list at the entrance. I didn´t know there was a need to pre-register but the nice lady added my name and I was allowed in. It was free entrance and I estimate around 250 were in attendance. The ground has a small seated stand, quite far from the pitch, and a small terrace behind one of the ends. As I understand it Motspur Park was originally an athletics stadium which might explain the odd position of the seated stand. This was a game in the U23 Premier League Division 2 and a win for Fulham would promote them to Division 1. Aston Villa took an early lead though but at half-time it was 1-1. I was actually quite impressed by the young Fulham side and in the second half they scored again to deservedly win 2-1. Victory and promotion for Fulham but I was also feeling like a winner as I left the ground, I had once again watched football on English soil! ![]() Entrance East Stand East Stand East Stand Badge South Stand Kick-off View of play East Stand View of play View of play South End South End West side |
