Västerås SKGround: Swedbank Park Visits: 1 Date: 8th July 2010 Match: Västerås SK - Sirius 1-1 (Division 1 Norra) Attendance: 1 960
Until 2008 Västerås SK played their matches at Arosvallen, a ground that hosted two matches in the 1958 World Cup. Swedbank has contributed to several new stadiums in Sweden in recent years and in 2008 Västerås had their share of the money. Swedbank Park, as the new stadium in Västarås is called, was opened in April 2008 and has a capacity of 7 000. The all-seated main stand has 4 126 seats and is an impressive stand for this level. Västerås is situated 540 km from where I live and the drive took me about 6,5 hours. That may sound like a very long trip for a match in the third tier of Swedish football but as some of you know I have friends in this area who I could stay at for a few days. For this match I had a press ackreditation and when I arrived I was greeted by a (very good-looking!) hostess who showed me to the press room. Since they didn´t recognise me I was asked if I was from Uppsala (Sirius home town). No, I write for a website was my honest answer. The press seats were at the top of the impressive West stand and I had a very good view of the action. Before this game Västerås SK were top of the table but last years Superettan team Sirius scored the first goal and seemed destined for three points. In the last minutes Västerås equalised though and the match ended 1-1. Swedbank Park is a ground that should host at least Superettan football, Västerås is quite a big city and if Västerås SK can be promoted I am sure they will have excellent attendances in Superettan. Almost 2 000 showed up for the match against Sirius and most of them went home quite pleased with a point.
