VendsysselGround: Nord Energi Arena (Hjørring Stadion) Visits: 1 Date: 8th August 2021 Match: Vendsyssel FF - Nykøping FC 1-1 (1. Division) Attendance: 1 150 The third and last match this weekend was at Nord Energi Arena in Hjørring and I was of course looking forward to complete the second tier in Denmark. Kick-off was at 15.00 and staying the night at a nice hotel in Hjørring I had a few hours to kill. In Hirtshals there is an Oceanarium which attracts plenty of visitors and being only 20 minutes away I went to Hirtshals for a few hours before going back to Hjørring. Having a long drive back home (5.5 hours) from northern Jutland I looked for a strategic parking spot near the ground and was pleased when I found one. In 2013 FC Hjørring merged with Fredrikshavn to form Vendsyssel FF. The club has mostly played in the lower divisions in Denmark but in 2018 the club reached Superligaen for the first time. They were immediately relegated though. Last season, in 1. Division, Kolding and Vendsyssel had the same number of points and the same but Vendsyssel stayed up on goals scored. In today´s match, in round 3 of 1. Division, Vendsyssel hosted Nykøping and after two draws Vendsyssel was looking for their first win of the season. In recent years the club/community has invested heavily in the ground and two new stands have been built. The north end is given to away fans but since Nykøping didn´t bring and fans that stand was empty during the match. It was actually free entrance in Hjørring this afternoon but “only” 1,150 showed up. Vendsyssel took the lead in the 7th minute but Nykøping were the better team in the first half and by half-time it was deservedly 1-1. The second half was pretty poor to be honest and no more goals were scored. As the final whistle was blown I could look back on a weekend where I completed the top two divisions in Denmark. I will most likely be back in Denmark in the coming months but on those trips it will most likely be games in the Copenhagen area.
