Helsingør StadionGround: Helsingør Stadion Visits: 1 Date: 11th October 2015 Match: FC Helsingør - Lyngby 0-1 (1. Division) Attendance: 1 902
FC Helsingør was founded in 2005 as a merger of six Helsingør based clubs. The club was originally called Elite 3000 but in time for the 2012/13 season the club changed its name to FC Helsingør. Last year the club won 2. Division Øst and 2015/16 is the first ever season for the club in the second tier of Danish football. Living in southern Sweden Helsingør is of course an easy place to visit. From Helsingborg there are, depending on time of the day, ferries every 15/30 minutes to Helsingør and from the harbour it takes around 20 minutes to walk to Helsingør Stadion. The biggest game this season for Helsingør must be against Lyngby and taking place on Sunday afternoon at 13.00 I decided to attend this fixture. At 09.02 my train left Kristianstad and at 10.40 I was in Helsingborg. At 11.00 I was on the ferry and 20 minutes later I was in Helsingør. I think this is only the third time, Vestmannaeyja and Mariehamn being the other, I have used a boat to get to a game. The weather this Sunday was glorious with sunshine, blue sky and around 10 °C. Shortly before noon I was then at Helsingør Stadion.
Helsingør Stadion is quite a basic ground with only two stands. The main stand has 282 seats and is the only covered stand at Helsingør Stadion. The far side is an open terrace but on days like today there is no need of a roof. The official capacity is given as 4 000 but I don´t understand how that is possible. The record attendance is 3 038, from 2009 when FCK visited in the cup. This season attendances have been around 1 000 but for the visit of Lyngby almost 2000 showed up. Unfortunately those of us present had to watch quite a poor game with few chances. The only drama actually happened in stoppage time. In the 92nd minute Lyngby were rewarded a penalty and the Helsingør defender was sent off as well. Both decisions were correct in my opinion. The penalty was saved but had to be retaken as the referee thought the Helsingør goalkeeper moved too quickly. My picture below show the referee was correct! The Helsingør players and fans were furious though. The second attempt from the penalty spot was more successful than the first and Lyngby could hold on to three important points. As I left the ground I could here the PA telling home fans to "calm down" and don´t do anything stupid. I made the 15.28 ferry and shortly before 18.00 I was back home.
