The first weekend of October meant the last round of matches in division 3 to 6. There were several interesting fixtures to choose from on Saturday afternoon and in the end I decided to go to Broby IP for Broby v Mala in Division 5 Skåne Nordöstra. Being a point behind leaders Glimåkra Broby are currently in a promotion play-off spot and needed to better Glimåkra´s result today to overtake them. Mala on the other hand are in the relegation play-off zone and could be safe but also relegated today depending on other results. Broby is around 30 minutes by car for me and 40 minutes prior to kick-off I parked my car outside the ground. As I entered, free entrance, there was a youth match on the main pitch and the two teams had to do their warm-up on a nearby practice pitch. The ground has a small open stand on the west side but otherwise Broby IP is a basic ground. As you probably know by now the restrictions say public gatherings of 50 are not allowed in Sweden at the moment. I counted to around 100 spectators at Broby IP this afternoon though and around a third of those were supporting the visitors from Mala.

It was very windy and not easy to play decent football. In the first half it was all Broby but the Mala goalkeeper made a few good saves and at half-tine it was still 0-0. At half-time I overheard locals saying Glimåkra were 2-0 up in their match and Glimåkra were obviously cruising towards automatic promotion. In the 65th minute Broby finally managed to score and despite several really good opportunities it ended 1-0 to Broby. In the end Glimåkra won 7-0 meaning Broby finished in 2nd place and coming Wednesday/Saturday they will play Åhus Horna in the 1st play-off round to Division 4. Mala ended up in the relegation play-offs and in two weeks’ time they will enter the 2nd play-off round to Division 5. Coming weekends I will hopefully enjoy a few interesting play-off games!
