EnköpingGround: Enavallen Visits: 1 Date: 1st August 2009 Match: Enköping - Degerfors 1-3 (Division 1 Norra) Attendance: 673
Every summer I visit some friends who live in Köping/Västerås area of Sweden and this year the 520 km trip took place the first weekend of August. When I found out Enköping played Degerfors in Division 1 North on the Saturday I couldn´t resist the temptation and went to the game along with one of my friends. Enköping and Degerfors both played in Superettan last year and you would expect them both to challenge for promotion straight back up. Degerfors are currently six points clear at the top but Enköping are fourth from bottom and only two points separate them from yet another relegation. Enköping play their matches at Enavallen, a ground with nice all-seated main stand. Enavallen, built in 1934, is another typical (small town) council-owned ground though with combined use for football and athletics. The record attendance is 9,102 against Djurgården in 2003, the so far only season Enköping have played in Allsvenskan. In 1999 Jesper Blomqvist won the treble with Manchester United and as assistant manager for Enköping he sometimes feels it is necessary to play himself and with 15 minutes to go we had a Champions League winner on the pitch. Degerfors were already 2-1 up and Jesper couldn´t do much to prevent Degerfors from winning 3-1. Degerfors is a club with a rich history and one of few clubs at this level who brings a significant number of fans to away matches. Between 150-200 Degerfors fans were scattered around the ground and enjoyed their victory. Apart from one that is: When Enköping went 1-0 up in the first half a Degerfors fan some seats from us joined in with the celebrations. He had been drinking too much and fell asleep shortly after kick-off. He was awoke by all the noise and probably thought Degerfors had taken the lead.......
