In 2018 Galtbäcks BK played in division 6 but after several promotions the club last season managed to win Division 3 Sydvästra Götaland meaning 2026 would be their first ever season in division 2 (level 4). Galtabäck is a tiny fishing village just south of Varberg and it is quite an achievement for such a club to play in division 2. It takes me around 2.5 hours to drive to Varberg and with the possibility of visiting Klostervallen in Åskloster the next day I decided to stay overnight in Varberg. My hotel was right by the sea and the view from there was magnificent. From the hotel it was then less than 15 minutes to Galtabäcks IP and with the ground being on a really narrow road I was pleased the club offered parking on the smaller B-pitch. There is a covered wooden stand in the west side of Galtabäcks IP but it was quite cold to sit there and most of the 180 or so spectators were standing on the far side. That meant having the sun straight into your eyes but it was definitely warmer in that part of the ground.

Two years ago tonight's visitors, Åstorp, missed out on top spot and automatic promotion to division 2 when Galtabäck equalised in stoppage time in the final game of the season. Åstorp were promoted via the play-offs anyway and now they face each other again. Galtabäck started the better team and were soon 2-0 up. Åstorp pulled a goal back late in the first half but 2-1 at half-time. In the second half it was more or less Åstorp only but it wasn´t until the 90th minute they managed to equalise. It ended 2-2 at Galtabäcks IP and I think both teams were pretty pleased with that result. Since my visit to Galtyabäcks IP meant I had re-completed Division 2 Västra Götaland I was also quite pleased as I made the short drive back to my hotel.
