Hörvikens IF

Ground: Gröna Vallen

Visits: 1

Date: 27th May 2018

Match: Hörvikens IF - IFK Osby  4-1  (Division 3 Sydöstra Götaland)

Attendance: 150

Listerlandet is a peninsula situated some 30 km from where I live. The most famous football team from Listerlandet is of course Mjällby AIF but in 2018 there is another team from Listerlandet competing in the national leagues. As champions of Division 4 Blekinge Hörvikens IF were promoted to Division 3 at the end of last season and 2018 is only the second season for the club at this level. Knowing Gröna Vallen, the home of Hörvikens IF, is a really nice football ground I was looking forward to my visit. It took me around 35 minutes to reach the fishing village of Hörvik and once inside Gröna Vallen this was indeed a nice ground. There was a forecast of rain and possibly thunder storms for earlier in the day but upon arrival the rain stayed away, it was a bit cloudy though. Three teams (out of 12) are automatically relegated from Division 3 and with Hörvikens IF and IFK Osby being on either side of the relegation zone this was an important game for both teams.

The visitors from Osby were supported by 25-30 fans this afternoon and in the 2nd minute those fans could celebrate an early goal. Hörvikens IF then had more and more possession and after 25 minutes it was suddenly 2-1 on the score-board. An entertaining first half and as I was eating my hot dog during the break the clouds disappeared as well. In the second half there was really only one team on the pitch. Hörviken played really well and 20 minutes into the second half they were 4-1 up. The remaining part of the game was quite dull but the 120 or so home fans could celebrate a good performance and three points. Strandvallen in Hällevik, the home of Mjällby AIF, is only 3.7 km from Gröna Vallen and it was possible to attend Mjällby v Grebbestad as well this afternoon. Not for me thoug and at 16.30 I was back home.
