My summer holidays are coming to an end but there was still room for one more domestic tour. Missing only two grounds in Division 2 Norra Götaland (Stenungsund and Karlstad Fotbollsutveckling) I planned the trip around a visit to Stenungsund. On Friday evening I had plenty of options and I decided to make the 4 h drive to Mariestad where I would visit IFK Mariestad v Assyriska IK at Lekevi IP in Division 3 Nordvästra Götaland.. Mariestad is situated next to Vänern, the biggest lake in Sweden, and after checking in at my hotel I went for a short sightseeing tour. With plenty of bars and cafés next to the water Mariestad clearly is a town you should visit in the summer. The cathedral is situated on top of a hill and I can imagine it is visible from far out in Vänern. I found a restaurant where I had dinner before going back to my hotel for a short rest.

Lekevi IP is situated in the outskirts of Mariestad and there are plenty of full-size pitches. The main pitch has a grass wall in the east side and in the south end. There was something looking like a stand in the west side and when I asked a local explained to me it was a mirrored stand supposed to be used at the artificial pitch (on the other side) as well. It should have been ready in December last year but somehow it is only 2/3 ready. Maybe in time for next season. I was not expecting a big crowd but 136 is quite good for a mid-table club in this division. Assyriska IK are from Jönköping and I have seen them in division 2 but nowadays they are fighting to avoid relegation from division 3. To my surprise Assyriska managed to win 3-2 and that will boost their chances to avoid relegation.
