LönsbodaGround: Snapphanevallen Visits: 1 Date: 7th September 2025 Match: Lönsboda GoIF - Balsby SK 4-2 (Division 6 Skåne Nordöstra A) Attendance: 60 On Saturday I was playing table tennis (Kristianstad Open) and if I was to do some groundhopping this weekend it had to be on Sunday afternoon. Snapphanevallen in Lösboda is 43 minutes by car for me and is one of the nearest grounds I still haven´t visited. At 16.00 on Sunday afternoon Lönsboda GoIF hosted Balsby SK in Division 6 Skåne Nordöstra and being quite tired from my Saturday activities I decided to keep it simple and finally tick off Snapphanevallen. In the 1600s Sweden and Denmark fought wars over Skåne and in 1658 Sweden got sovereignty. Denmark wanted Skåne back though and in 1675 the Scanian war started. In northern Skåne many locals were fighting on the Danish side and these rebels/freedom fighters were called “snapphanar”. The area around Lönsboda was one of their strongholds and in 1678 Karl XI (king of Sweden) ordered the torching of Örkeneds socken (nowadays Lönsboda) and the execution of all men who could carry arms. Locals were tipped off though and most managed to escape. Before going to the ground I visited the Snapphane statue and the memorial of the torching. In the 90s Karl XI appeared on the new 500 SEK note and it was reported some local shops refused to accept it! The ground itself turned out to be quite nice and I was not expecting to see a covered wooden main stand but that was the case at Snapphanevallen. I counted around 60 spectators and for this level that is the “standard” attendance. Balsby took the lead from the penalty spot but it was then mostly Lönsboda who attacked and in the end they deservedly won 4-2. A great afternoon for me and on my way back I had to stop as an elk was blocking the road. Elks are huge and something I have respect for. It eventually walked back into the forest though and could continue my drive.
