Malmö City

Ground: Kirsebergs Idrottsplats

Visits: 1

Date: 21st April 2018

Match: Malmö City - Limhamn/Bunkeflo  0-2  (Division 3 Södra Götaland)

Attendance: 120

Malmö City FC was founded in 2009 as a merger between Kirsebergs IF and Rörsjöstaden IF. The club has been playing in Division 4 the last couple of years but after winning the promotion play-offs in 2017 the club is now back in Division 3. Three Malmö clubs (Balkan, Malmö City and Limhamn/Bunkeflo) were all promoted from Division 4 and they all ended up in the most southern of the level 5 leagues in Sweden, Division 3 Södra  Götaland. Malmö City are playing their home games at Kirsebergs IP and with that ground being in the eastern outskirts of Malmö it is a ground that is easy for me to visit. From the motorway it only takes a few minutes to reach the ground and the drive this sunny Saturday afternoon only took me 65 minutes. Kirsebergs IP is situated next to Kirsebergs Sporthall and as I left my car I noticed a floorball (innebandy!) tournament was taking place inside. The football was outside though and even though the pitch is artificial there are no running tracks at Kirsebergs IP. In the south side there is an open terrace and for this level Kirsebergs IP is an ok ground.

Being kind of a Malmö derby I was hoping for a decent attendance and in the end 120 or so showed up. There were a few away fans and in the first half their team had most of the possession but they couldn´t score, 0-0 at half-time. In the second half Limhamn/Bunkeflo continued their dominance and in the 63rd minute they could finally score to make it 0-1. Malmö City then had a few chances but Limhamn/Bunkeflo were the better team and in stoppage time they made sure they would leave Kirsebergs IP with all three points. 0-2 and a deserved victory for the visitors. I visited Limhamn/Bunkeflo ten years ago when they played in Superettan. Back then they played at Limhamns IP but nowadays they are playing at Brovallen in Bunkeflostrand. That ground is now my only missing ground in Division 3 Södra Götaland and in June I hope to visit the reversed fixture to re-complete this league.
