Skara FCGround: Sparbanken Arena Visits: 1 Date: 29th June 2024 Match: Skara FC - Forshaga 1-0 (Division 3 Nordvästra Götaland) Attendance: 175 Going through my options for Saturday I in the end decided to visit Sparbanken Arena in Skara for the top of the table (1st v 2nd) clash between Skara FC and Forshaga. Skara FC were founded in 1995 after a merger of Skara IF and IFK Skara. In recent years they have mostly played in division 4 but after winning promotion last season they are now competing in Division 3 Nordvästra Götaland. It is actually a league where I prior to today had not visited a single ground. From Kungälv, where I stayed for the night, it took me 1h 45 min to drive to Skara. Once in Skara I stopped by the ground to take a look before heading to a grill where I had lunch. Around 30 minutes before kick-off I was back at the ground and it was now quite heavy rain coming down. The rain died down and I entered without getting soaked. For this level Sparbanken Arena in Skara is quite a big ground but the main stand is quite far from the pitch. I was joined by Skövde AIK´s most loyal fans, Simon and Kurt Lindgren and as usual it was nice to chat about football to fellow football lovers. With only one point separating the top two teams this was of course a very important game. On the pitch Skara FC were by far the better team though and in the 18th minute they scored to make it 1-0. Skara then had so many really good opportunities but somehow failed to score any more goals. They could easily have scored five or six more goals but in the end I think they are still quite pleased to go to the summer break with a 1-0 victory. Skara are now three points clear at the top and I wouldn´t rule out back to back promotions.
