Tornvallen, Stångby Konstgräs

Ground: Tornvallen, Stångby Konstgräs

Visits: 1

Date: 29th March 2025

Match: Torn - Nosaby  3-0  (Division 2 Södra Götaland)

Attendance: 150

The last weekend of March was the opening weekend of the league season in Sweden for the top four divisions. I have been to every ground in Division 2 Södra Götaland but when I noticed Torn v Nosaby was to be played at Stångby Konstgräs I decided this was to be my first league game of the season. Torns IF played in Division 1 last season and are probably most famous for their outstanding Twitter account which has won the “Best on social media” award the last two years. Their ambition is probably to go back to Division 1 as soon as possible but they have not been mentioned as one of the favourites. Nosaby are from Kristianstad and have an almost completely new starting eleven compared to 2024. It is around an hour by car from Kristianstad to Stångby and as I left my car it was obvious this was to be a very windy afternoon.

I last visited Tornvallen in 2012 and since then a new stand has been built at the main pitch. The pitch looked ok to me but it is apparently not yet ready to host football. At the nearby artificial pitch it was hard standing only and I estimate the attendance was around 150. Some of those were Torn Ultras, a group of young fans who bring flags etc to every home game. Torn started the better team in the 30th minute they took the lead from the penalty spot. It looked like a soft penalty to me but home players and fans didn't care. Nosaby nearly equalised in the 45th minute but it was deservedly 1-0 at half-time. Early on in the 2nd half Torn made it 2-0 from a bicycle kick and it was by now game over for Nosaby. In the end it was 3-0 to Torn but 6-1 would probably have been a better reflection of what happened on the pitch.
