Triglav Kranj

Ground: Športni Center Kranj

Visits: 1

Date: 28th July 2018

Match: Triglav Kranj - Aluminij  1-3  (Prva Liga)

Attendance: 400

On Saturday there was only one game in Prva Liga and that game was being played in Kranj, Triglav v Aluminij. Staying the night in Celje I had to go by train to Ljubljana and then by bus to Kranj. The train was cancelled though but there was a replacement bus and shortly before 1pm I was back in Ljubljana. From Ljubljana the journey to Kranj is a short one, 35 minutes, and around 2pm I was in my hotel in central Kranj. There was a bicycle race in Kranj this weekend and several streets in the city centre were closed for traffic. Anyway, my hotel was really nice and for lunch I had a delicious steak in the hotel restaurant. There are not many sights in Kranj itself but I made the short walk down to the Sava river and the river was just as I remember it from previous trips to Slovenia. It was around 30 degrees in Kranj today and after an ice-cream I returned to my hotel for a short rest.

Kick-off at Športni Center Kranj was at 6pm and 45 minutes prior to kick-off I was outside the ground. The ticket office was open but the computer was not working so I had to wait to get my ticket. Tickets for the main stand cost only 8 Euros but the Englishmen ahead of me in the queue insisted on getting a ticket for the stand on the far side. The girl selling tickets told him that stand was directly in the sun and it will be very hot for you. His reply was “I am from England and can do with some sun”. The main stand was covered and thankfully protected me from the sun. I guess the stand on the far side is used for away fans when Maribor or Olimpija Ljubljana visit. I was only expecting an attendance of 200-250 but the official attendance was given as 400. This was a lovely Friday evening with the Alps in the background. The actual match was quite entertaining with Triglav taking the lead, from the penalty spot, after only two minutes. Three minutes later it was 1-1 on the score-board though. In the second half Aluminij were the better team and in the 64th minute they took the lead. With the last kick of the game the evening they then scored again to win 3-1. That meant 14 goals in 3 games for me on my Slovenian tour.

It was really nice for me to once again be back in Slovenia and hopefully I will return sometime in the future. Tomorrow I´ll fly back home but next Saturday I am off again!
