Werder Bremen

Ground: Weser-Stadion

Visits: 1

Date: 31st October 2015

Match: Werder Bremen - Dortmund  1-3  (Bundesliga)

Attendance: 42 100

The biggest match on this trip was without a doubt Werder Bremen vs Dortmund. Werder Bremen has a strange ticket system where you have to apply for tickets and after a month or so there is then a draw to decide who will get a ticket. If there are tickets left after the draw you can buy tickets in a normal way. For a game against Dortmund no tickets would be left though and I had to rely on my luck. I was lucky (which you probably have figured out already!) and was of course excited being able to finally visit Weser-Stadion. At 10.39 my Metronom train left Hamburg Hbf and shortly after noon I was in Bremen. Since I had to pick up my ticket I wanted to be at the ground quite early. Weser-Stadion is, not surprisingly, situated next to the river Weser. The stadium was opened in 1947 but has of course but renovated several times since then. The latest rebuilding works took place between 2008 and and 2011 when the running tracks were removed. Nowadays the capacity is 42 100 for domestic games. The hard core home fans are standing in the Ostkurve. My ticket was in the upper tier of the Nordtribüne and outside Tor 6 I found the ticket office and could pick up my ticket without any problems. At first I thought the ticket would be sent to Sweden but when I didn´t receive one I called the ticket office and they explained to me they don´t send tickets abroad.

My seat was in the top row of the northeast corner of the ground. In the first half I had the sun in my eyes but at least that kept me warm. Dortmund had around 7 000 fans, many in home areas, at Weser-Stadion and as expected a great atmosphere. The Bremen hard core fans were in the stand to my left and it was in front of those fans Dortmund scored twice in the first half, 1-2 after 45 minutes. In the second half Bremen tried their best but didn´t create that many chances. Instead it was Dortmund who scored the only goal in the second half and the game finished 1-3. A well-deserved victory if you ask me. After the match I met up with Oliver and we then walked to Bremen Hbf together. Plenty of riot police outside the ground but nu troubles as far as I know. Oliver left the train in Buchholz and we said goodbye to each other. I continued to my hotel in Hamburg and the German part of this trip was coming to an end.

I now only have two grounds (Augsburg and Ingolstadt) left in the Bundesliga. In 2. Bundesliga I only have three grounds left and in the next two years or so I hope to have completed the top divisions in Germany. There is one match left for me on this trip though. That will be in Fredericia in Denmark tomorrow afternoon.
