Fredriksskans IPGround: Fredriksskans Idrottsplats Visits: 1 Date: 29th April 2007 Match: Kalmar FF - Djurgården 1-0 (Allsvenskan) Attendance: 7 349
Fredriksskans IP was opened in 1919 and is situated in central Kalmar, very close to the Baltic Sea. The record attendance is from 1949 when 15 243 turned up to see Kalmar FF play Malmö FF. In recent years the capacity was around 9 000 but with only around 3 500 being covered seats it was difficult for Kalmar FF to get decent crowds. As the stadium was not the best for football (and not allowed to host international matches) Kalmar FF wanted a new ground and in December 2009 building works could finally start on their new stadium. 31st October 2010 was to be the date for the last ever Allsvenskan match at Fredriksskans, 6 894 saw Häcken beat Kalmar 3-1.
The new stadium in Kalmar, scheduled to be opened in April 2011, will have a capacity of around 12 100 and will be named Guldfågeln Arena. Fredriksskans IP will remain as an athletics stadium.
