AsarumGround: Asarums Idrottsplats Visits: 1 Date: 28th May 2014 Match: Asarum - Nosaby 1-0 (Division 2 Östra Götaland) Attendance: 300
Asarum is situated just north of Karlshamn, in Blekinge. Last year the local football team, Asarums IF, won promotion from Division 3 and 2014 is their first ever season in Division 2. Since Asarum is only 60 km from where I live it is one of the easiest grounds for me to visit in the top four divisions in Sweden. The match against my local football team, Nosaby, was scheduled for a Wednesday evening (28 May) and unless the weather was going to be terrible this was the fixture I wanted to attend at Asarums IP. The weather turned out to be sunny and straight after work I left for Asarum. At 18.10 I was then at Asarums IP. Once I left my car I quickly realized it was much colder than expected. The sun was out and the sky was clear but a strong wind made this a very chilly evening. I was thinking about leaving my (summer) coat at home but thankfully I brought it with me. In fact a winter coat would have been even better.
Asarums IP is quite a nice ground for this level. There is a small wooden seated stand on the west side of the ground but no running tracks and hill behind one of the goals makes this a proper football ground. With both teams being newly promoted this was an important match for both of them. The first half was awful with very few chances and not much to get excited about, 0-0 at half-time. During the break I bumped into a fellow table-tennis player (Mats from Karlshamn) and we then chatted for most of the game. The second half was better than the first and in the 46th minute Asarum made it 1-0. Nosaby then tried their best to equalize but Asarum were the better team and could have scored a second goal. No more goals though and the match finished 1-0 to Asarum. I was by now freezing to an extent I have rarely experienced at a football match and rushed back to my car. Hopefully my next match will be in warmer conditions!
