BW 90Ground: Bjärsjölagårds Idrottsplats Visits: 1 Date: 14th April 2013 Match: BW 90 - Hässleholms IF 6-1 (Division 2 Södra Götaland) Attendance: 240
Early in the week it was forecasted the coming Sunday (14th April) was to be the so far warmest day of 2013. With the lower leagues in Sweden starting this weekend (good timing!) I looked at possible matches I could visit and I decided for BW 90 vs Hässleholms IF in Division 2 Södra Götaland. BW 90 were formed in 1990 as a merger between Bjärsjölagårds IF and Vollsjö IF. In recent years Vollsjö have left the partnership though and BW 90 is in principle synonymous with the old Bjärsjölagård IF. They have decided to keep the name BW 90 as it is well established among other clubs. Bjärsjölagård is a small village (pop. 350) in the Skåne countryside and it is a remarkable achievement to play in the 4th tier of Swedish football. The match against Hässleholms IF was BW 90s first ever match in Division 2 and it didn´t start too well for them. Hässleholms IF, another promoted team, scored a cracking goal after only 25 seconds. An excellent start to the match for me as a neutral. BW 90 have brought some new players and they were really good. They turned the match around completely and after the first half it was 3-1 to the home team. In the end the match finished 6-1 and if BW 90 continue like this there is a chance/risk of them winning the league. As the match came to an end I couldn´t help thinking about how ironic it was for me to visit Bjärsjölagårds IP, expecting nothing and then being treated with a really good game of football. Last Sunday I was at Friends Arena for AIK´s opening match, lots of expectations but a very boring 0-0 match. The charm of football I guess!
