BalsbyGround: Balsby Idrottsplats Visits: 1 Date: 17th October 2020 Match: Balsby - Genarp 0-2 (Play-off to Division 5) Attendance: 70 The regular league season in division 3 to 6 ended two weeks ago and there are now a few weekends of play-off games looking forward to. Balsby ended 3rd in Division 6 Skåne Nordöstra B and in the first play-off round they beat Charlo (2nd in Division 6 Sydöstra) after a penalty shoot-out. In the 2nd and final round Balsby are playing Genarp, who finished 9th in Division 5 Skåne Södra. First leg this afternoon at Balsby IP and the return leg is next Saturday in Genarp. Balsby is less than 10 km from where I live and for the game this afternoon I was joined by a colleague from work. For being in mid-October the weather was glorious with around 10 degrees and sunshine. Balsby is situated next to the lake Råbelövssjön and we stopped by the lake to take a few pictures before making our way to the ground. Balsby IP is a typically village ground with a few benches to sit on, no running tracks and a natural grass pitch. Behind the goal in the north end of the ground there is a hill and we decided to stand/sit there and enjoy the match as well as the sunshine. In total around 70 spectators showed up but with no perimeter fence and free entrance it is impossible to check the number of fans showing up. I actually ran into a local policeman who grew up on the same street as I did but he was there as a fan and wasn´t too concerned about the 50-limit being exceeded. He told me had coached several of the players in Balsby and was of course hoping for a home victory today. From the start it was obvious Genarp would win this game. In the first ten minutes they had three really good chances to score and it was a miracle, combined with some poor finishing, it was only 0-1 at half-time. In the second half Genarp had chance after chance but the ball ended up anywhere but in the back of the net. Genarp eventually scored a another goal and the first leg of this play-off tie ended 0-2. As I see it there is no way Balsby can turn this around but in Corona times you never know what can happen. I will hopefully attend another play-off game next weekend and if the infection rate keeps increasing, meaning a closed bridge to Denmark, that might even be my last match in 2020.
