Bootham CrescentGround: KitKat Crescent (Bootham Crescent) Visits: 1 Date: 25th March 2008 Match: York City - Northwich Victoria 1-1 (BS Conference Premier National) Attendance: 1 941
I had planned to go to Huddersfield-Leeds this evening but since Leeds had three international call-ups the match was postponed and I was lucky to find a match in York instead. York is a an old town with a stunning cathedral and there were plenty of tourists in the streets in the city centre. After checking in at my hotel I went up to the ground to buy my ticket and when the Commercial manager found out I was from Sweden he called for the League sponsors (Blue Square) representative who was in the office and he welcomed me to Bootham Crescent and Conference football. When I visit places like Old Trafford I am just another tourist but at Bootham Crescent I felt very welcome. Moments like this is what makes groundhopping so interesting and fun! After walking around and taking some pictures of the tourist attractions I went back to my hotel to rest before heading back up to the ground. York scored the first goal but the visitors played better and better and deservedly equalised in the second half and should have won the match. The home fans in the Main Stand were very upset over the performance from the home team and the elderly lady next to me was so upset at times I thought she would hit me (or someone else). When the Man of the match was announced she nearly did, she didn´t agree with the decision if I put like that. York won´t be promoted back to the football league this season but I wish them the best for the future and I wouldn´t be surprised if I make a return trip one (warmer) day.
