CarlisleGround: Brunton Park Visits: 1 Date: 10th April 2009 Match: Carlisle - Oldham 1-1 (CC League 1) Attendance: 6 635
With so many matches being played during such a short time period Easter is one of the best times to visit England, at least if you like football! After going through the fixture list I decided to go to Brunton Park, for Carlisle vs Oldham, on Good Friday. There were a lot of people travelling northwards but after some delays I eventually made it to Carlisle by 1pm. Once there I headed towards The Griffin pub where I met up with Andy (and his mate) from the Footballgroundguide. We had many football stories to talk about and even som Oldham fans joined the discussions. After a while some other Oldham fans entered and Andy told me we better leave for the ground, "They are hooligans, it might kick-off" and who was I not to follow his advice ? I picked up my pre-paid ticket at the ticket office and after a short stop at a pub inside the West Stand I made my way to my seat. My seat was in the first row of the Main Stand, Andy and his friend were in the paddock just below me. Brunton Park is a ground I really like, a modern East Stand, a terraced home end and a Main (West) Stand with a terraced paddock and wooden seats in the tier above. A ground to visit if you like traditional grounds. The match itself finished 1-1. Oldham, down to 10 men, equalised with a couple of minutes to go. Carlisle should however have killed the game long before this, having scored from the penalty spot in the first half. They then missed one chance after the other in the second half. My stand neighbour was very upset at all the misses " He couldn't finish off a dinner" was his verdict when a Carlisle striker failed to score a sitter. I had a great day out in Carlisle and hopefully the club will stay in League 1.
