Eskilsminne are normally playing at Harlyckans IP
A few years ago I attended Harlyckans IP for the Helsingborg derby in Division 2 between Högaborg and Eskilsminne. Due to building works at Harlyckans IP Eskilsminne will play their first five games of the 2016 season at Västergårds IP and for me this was of course good news. With Helsingborg being only a 90-minute drive from Kristianstad this was by far my nearest new ground in Division 2 this year. The weather forecast said 11-12 °C and sunshine meaning I had every reason to be in a good mood as I set off for my first domestic league game of the season. Kick-off was at 14.00 and 70 minutes or so before kick-off I parked my car outside the ground. For this game I was joined by Christian and Magnus, my friends from Gothenburg, and they were already at the ground. Västergårds IP is where Eskilsminne are based and all their youth teams as well as the women´s team play their games at the many pitches in this training complex. The main pitch, where the five Division 2 games are played, is alright. There are two small stands and on the west side, where the clubhouse is, people are standing along the pitch. This was the first game of the Division 2 season and in the nice weather 221 people turned up.
Eskilsminne, who played in Division 1 last season, have lost 6 of their best players and are probably looking forward to a mid-table season. Sävedalen were promoted, via the play-offs, from Division 3 and are most likely aiming to avoid relegation. Eskilsminne started the game the better team and in the 8th minute it was 1-0 to the home team. The game was quite entertaining and before the half-time whistle was blown the visitors had turned things around. 1-1 was from the penalty spot and shortly before half-time it was 1-2 on the score-board. In the second half Sävedalen seemed to be in control and Eskilsminne were not very often on the attack. The last 10-15 minutes of the game that changed though and Eskilsminne threw everything at the away goal. They lacked the final touch though and no more goals were scored. My first competitive domestic game of 2016 ended 1-2 and the three groundhoppers at Västergårds IP were pleased as they left the ground. Christian and Magnus are doing a treble in Denmark tomorrow and I wished them a a nice trip.
