Esperöds SKGround: Björkavallen Visits: 1 Date: 13th July 2021 Match: Esperöds SK - Borrby 3-0 (Division 5 Skåne Östra) Attendance: 120 Last weekend was for most leagues in Division 1 and below the last before they go on a 3-week summer break. I noticed Esperöds SK were hosting Borrby in Division 5 Skåne Östra on Tuesday evening though and decided to go to Äsperöd for that match. Äsperöd is about an hour by car from Kristianstad and in the Skåne agricultural heartland. Some might notice the difference in spelling between the club and the village but Esperöd is the old name/spelling of the village. Nowadays Äsperöd has a population of around 250 but the local football club is attracting players from a wide area around the village and is currently fighting for promotion. Esperöds SK play at Björkavallen and my first impression was a very good one. The entrance to the ground looked like an entrance to a mansion and the ground itself is very nice, albeit without any proper stands. With a win tonight Esperöds SK would go top and they had a great start to the game. Within 10 minutes it was 1-0 but for most of the first half it was Borrby who went on the attack. Borrby hit the underside of the bar and had several other good chances to score but still 1-0 at half-time. In the second half Esperöds SK had much more possession and once they scored to make it 2-0 this match could only have one winner. In the end it was 3-0 to the hosts who are now top of the league. There are a few clubs with less played games though but for now Esperöds SK are top. The last six weeks I have attended 17 matches and I will now have short break until the end of July when I go to the very north of Sweden.
