FredensborgGround: Fredensborg Stadion Visits: 1 Date: 8th October 2016 Match: Fredensborg - Holbæk 1-0 (2. Division, pulje 1) Attendance: 133
When Fredensborg BI at the end of last season finished top of the table in Danmarksserien it meant the club, for the first time ever, would play in the third tier of the Danish league pyramid. 2. Divisionen, the Danish third tier, are divided into 3 groups of 8 teams and the top four teams of each group then play in the promotion round during the second half of the season. The bottom four teams play in the relegation round but hopefully you had already figured that out. In Pulje 1 (Group 1) I have been to six of the eight teams and Fredensborg and Holbæk are the ones I was missing. Fredensborg is situated in northern Sjælland and with a 13.00 kick-off time on Saturday afternoon I decided to travel to Denmark (Helsingør) on Friday evening. With an Öresund runt ticket I only had to pay 25 Euros for all my travelling. Only condition is I cross the bridge between Malmö and Copenhagen on the way to Denmark and then use the ferry between Helsingør and Helsingborg on the way back from Denmark (or reversed). That meant I had to sit in the train for 2 h 45 minutes, from Kristianstad via Copenhagen to Helsingør, on Friday afternoon.
I woke up around 9am on Saturday morning and after a long breakfast I enjoyed the nice October weather in Helsingør before setting off for Fredensborg at 11.50. 25 minutes later I was at Fredensborg Stadion the home of Fredensborg BI. The ground is very basic with only a few concrete steps in the east side of the ground. With the club playing at level 4 or below until now I guess there had been no need to upgrade the ground. The sun more or less went into hiding as soon as I arrived at Fredensborg Stadion. There was no rain but with a steady wind and 9-10 °C it was not exactly a warm afternoon for me. After today´s game there are only four rounds left in the first half of the season and Holbæk are already destined for the promotion round. Fredensborg were 5th in the table and really needed the three points if they want to play in the promotion round after the New Year. The game was ok with several chances for both teams but it seemed impossible to score a goal. Then, in the 89th minute, a deflected shot ended up in the net behind the Holbæk keeper. 1-0 and three valuable points for Fredensborg. At 15.09 my train left Fredensborg and 20 minutes later I was back in Helsingør where my female travel companion for the weekend met up with me. We then made the short walk to the ferry terminal where Tycho Brahe brought us back to Sweden. A night at a nice hotel in Helsingborg before going back home to Kristianstad on Sunday morning.
