Match: Frej - Umeå  1-1  (Division 1 Norra)

After completing the grounds in Division 1 Södra (South) I looked at fixtures at in Division 1 Norra (North). Luleå and Boden are cities situated some 1 400 km from where I live but with the first derby of the season being played in late June I couldn´t resist booking a trip. The trip started with two matches in the Stockholm area though and early on Sunday morning I set off for the Swedish capital. 4,5 hours later I arrived in Stockholm. I have a friend in Stockholm and luckily for me I could stay at his place for two nights. First match of my trip was Frej vs Umeå at Vikingavallen in Täby Kyrkby. Frej are based in Täby and play in the third tier of Swedish football for the first time. It was easy to find the ground. Täby Kyrkby is a stop on Roslagsbanan and the journey from central Stockholm only took 20 minutes or so. On our way to Täby Kyrkby we passed some of the richest area in Stockholm/Sweden and some of the houses were impressive to say the least.

Vikingavallen is a very basic ground. with only two small open stands on both sides. The pitch is artificial but with today´s visitors being Umeå at the least the away team was familiar with the surface. Before this match Umeå were four points clear at the top of the table and with Frej in the relegation zone I expected Umeå to win quite easily. That was not to happen though. The match finished 1-1 and Umeå were not as good as I had expected. This was not the best of matches and certainly not a great ground to visit. However, with the forecast being showers I was pleased only to endure 10-15 minutes of rain. When the match finished it was actually quite warm and I could put my pullover back in the rucksack. Tomorrow evening I am going to another ground in Division 1 Norra (Midgårdsvallen, Märsta) but some touristing in Stockholm to be done before that though!
