HelsingørGround: Helsingør Ny Stadion Visits: 1 Date: 15th August 2019 Match: Helsingør - Vanløse 6-2 (2. Division, pulje 1) Attendance: 829 Four years ago I visited Helsingør Stadion for the 1.Division encounter between FC Helsingør and Lyngby. In 2017 the club was promoted to Superligaen and with Helsingør Stadion not complying with ground regulations it was eventually decided a new ground was to be built. As the new football ground in Helsingør was opened last Friday FC Helsingør are now, after back to back relegations, playing in 2. Division (level 3) though. The club wants promotion straight back to 1.Division and most of their players are at the club full-time. I couldn´t attend the opening match but the second ever match at the ground, against Vanløse, was to when I went back to Helsingør for football. In stunning conditions I arrived at the travel center in Helsingborg where I parked my car. Ferries from Sweden to Denmark are every 15 minutes during peak-time and I know going to Helsingør would be very popular today. I was still surprised to see the massive queue of people wanting to board the 11.45 ferry but I just about made it onboard. Alcohol is much cheaper in Denmark and it was obvious this was to be a very good day for businesses in Helsingør. It was around 30 minutes by foot to the ground and on the way I ran into musicians parading through the narrow streets. The new ground is around 300 metres from the old ground and there is no official name for the ground yet. Once at the ground it was obvious there is plenty of work still to be done but at least the ground is now ready to host football. At the moment the capacity of the new Helsingør Stadion is around 4,000 but with the ends left unused it is possible to extend the ground if there is a need for a bigger capacity. Shortly before kick-off Christian and Magnus showed up as well and the three Swedish groundhoppers present were fortunate to attend a really entertaining football match. By half-time top of the table FC Helsingør was 2-0 up and in the second half it was goals galore in Helsingør. As the referee blew his final whistle this afternoon the score-board showed 6-2. Eight goals is a new record for me in 2019 making this a memorable day out. After the match we met up with Danish groundhopper Michael who is now only has to visit the new ground in Holbæk in order to re-complete the top three divisions in Denmark. I have been to 10 of the 12 grounds in this league and will hopefully complete this league in the near future. I just about made the 16.40 ferry back to Helsingborg and around 18.30 I was back home.
