Hertha ZehlendorfGround: Stadion Lichterfelde Visits: 1 Date: 27th July 2024 Match: Hertha Zehlendorf - Zwickau 5-0 (Regionalliga Nordost) Attendance: 1 103 I slept late on Saturday morning and could enjoy a long breakfast at my hotel. With kick-off at Stadion Lichterfelde, where I would attend Hertha Zehlendorf v Zwickau, being at 13.00 there was time for some sightseeing before setting off for the ground. From my hotel next to Berlin Hbf I walked to the Reichstagsgebäude, Brandenburger Tor and the Gedenkstätte for murdered jews. From the S-bahn station at Brandenburger Tor there was a direct train to Lichterfelde Ost, the station nearest to the ground. Unfortunately there was steady rain coming down and with the walk taking around 20 minutes I waited for the rain to clear. The rain wouldn´t stop and after 20 minutes or so I started to walk to the ground. Once there I was wet but not soaked. The main entrance at the ground was reserved for away fans and home fans had to enter from a side street some 200 m from the main entrance. Stadion Lichterfelde has running tracks but thankfully the main stand has a roof and during the match I dried up. The ground is the home of Viktoria Berlin but after getting promotion from Oberliga Nordost (Staffel Nord) Hertha Zehlendorf will play their home games in Regionalliga Nordost at Stadion Lichterfelde as well. Zwickau played in 3. Liga last season and brought several hundred fans to Berlin this afternoon. Hertha Zehlendorf made it 1-0 in the 20th minute and at half-time it was 3-0. As the players went to the dressing room I could hear some angry words from the away fans aimed at their players. In the 2nd half the rain had stopped and occasionally the sun could be seen. With Hertha Zehlendorf scoring two additional goals to win 5-0 there was not much to be pleased about in the away end though. A sensational start to the new season and Zwickau really needs to improve. At 20.20 my flight back to Copenhagen departed Berlin airport and shortly after 23 I was back home. A short and intense trip to Berlin was coming to an end.
