The plan for this weekend was to visit Åvallen in Marieholm on Saturday afternoon for the last round promotion decider between Marieholm (2nd) and Lunds BoIS (1st). With storm Amy arriving at lunchtime the weather was horrendous and lots of matches were moved to artificial pitches. Heavy rain and a strong wind is not that fun when it comes to watching football and I decided to stay at home all Saturday. Wanting some football on Sunday I looked at my options and I decided to visit Högadals IP in Karlshamn for Högadals IS v FC Iliria. This was a fixture in the last round of Division 6 Blekinge and despite it being a dead rubber I was looking forward to my visit.

In 1962 Högadals IS played in Allsvenskan but recently the club has mostly been playing in Division 5 and 6. Along with current Allsvenskan leaders Mjällby AIF, Högadal is the only other club from Blekinge who has played in Allsvenskan. Their attendance record is a stunning 14,564 from an Allsvenskan play-off game against Öster at Vägga IP. Those days are long gone though and today, with free entrance, I counted around 50 spectators at Högadals IP.

Prior to today Högadal were bottom of the table but a deserved 2-0 win against Iliria meant Högadal avoided finishing bottom. The regular season in the lower leagues is now over but coming three weeks there are play-off games to look forward to!
