KFUM Roskilde

Ground: Lillevang

Visits: 1

Date: 19th September 2020

Match: KFUM Roskilde - AB  0-4  (2. Division, pulje 2)

Attendance: 382

The Corona interrupted 2019/20 football season in Denmark ended with the top two teams in each of the four Danmarksserien (level 4) leagues playing each other for a promotion spot. KFUM Roskilde managed to win their play-off and was one of four promoted teams to this season´s 2. Division. There are 2 x 14 teams in 2. Division and in the eastern group (pulje 2) I am only missing out on the newly promoted club from Roskilde. KFUM Roskilde has actually never played in the third tier in Denmark so this is a historic season for the club. Their first ever home match at this level was two weeks ago but I couldn’t go to Denmark that weekend. The visitor in their second home game of the season was Akademisk Boldklub (AB) and as tickets went on sale I bought a ticket for this fixture. AB has won nine Danish league titles but their latest title was 50 years ago. At this level they still bring a decent number of fans though and with the forecast saying 19 degrees and sunshine I was in a good mood as I set off from Kristianstad around 10am. With the Danish border control being removed it was an easy trip for me at shortly after noon I was at Lillevang Idrætscenter in eastern Roskilde.

There are less than 100 seats in the only proper stands at Lillevang and only half of those can be used. Since spectators have to be seated fans had to bring the own chair to the game and then place it in a marked spot inside the ground. The gates opened at 12.45, kick-off was 13.30, and I found a good viewing position in second tier of the grass bank on the west side of the ground. Excellent legroom and nearest stand neighbor 1m away, not too bad! KFUM Roskilde and AB have both started the season with four points after three games and most of the 382 present at Lillevang expected a close game. AB took the lead early on but after 20 minutes KFUM Roskilde equalized, at least I thought but the goal was eventually ruled out for handball. AB used the opportunity and quickly took the resulting free-kick. A great counter-attack later it was suddenly 0-2 and some very upset KFUM players. In the second half KFUM Roskilde tried their best but AB was the better team and the final score was 0-4. A bit harsh for the hosts but it is along season and I am sure KFUM will take plenty of points in their first ever season at this level. I am aiming for one or two more trips to Denmark later in the autumn but it of course depends on the Corona situation.
