KostaGround: Ekevallen Visits: 1 Date: 7th September 2024 Match: Kosta IF - Vislanda IF 8-1 (Division 5 Småland Södra) Attendance: 60 The reason for going to Småland today was the opportunity to attend two matches. The match in Lessebo finished at 14.47 and with Kosta v Vislanda starting at 16.00 I had plenty of time to get something to eat in Lessebo before making the short (15 minutes) trip to Ekevallen in Kosta. As is the case with the local table tennis club (Kosta SK) the local football club has in recent years received financial backing from the Craft (New Wave) owner Torsten Jansson who lives in Kosta. With his backing the table tennis club has reached Superettan and the football club in Kosta are aiming for at least Division 1. Last season Kosta IF won Division 6 and after 17 (of 22) matches in 2024 Kosta have 16 wins and one draw. A win today against Vislanda and another promotion party would take place in Kosta. The current ground is very basic and a new ground would definitely be needed if the club wants to reach Division 1 or even Superettan. 10 minutes into today´s match it was 2-0 and at half-time it was 5-0. The first three goals were actually from a penalty kick, corner kick and a free-kick and I don't think I have seen that happen before. The 2nd half was not very dramatic but when the final whistle was blown Kosta could finally celebrate yet another promotion. They will most likely win their league next season as well but then it will be tougher. It was a warm day but at 19.30 I was back home and could look back on a great day out in Småland.
