Leganés BGround: Instalación Deportiva Butarque Visits: 1 Date: 16th February 2020 Match: Leganés B - Navalcanero 2-0 (Tercera División, Grupo 7) Attendance: 300 As I was planning my annual mid-February trip I suddenly realized Friday 14 February was Valentine’s Day. That ruled out flying somewhere Friday evening and going through my options I decided to fly to Madrid on Saturday afternoon. Arriving around 7pm there was of course no match for me today but on Sunday I had the opportunity to attend three games in Madrid, Leganés B v Navalcarnero (10.30), Leganés v Real Betis (14.00) and Real Madrid v Celta Vigo (21.00). My hotel was not far from Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and around 8pm I was inside my room. Being quite hungry I headed towards the hotel bar but a poor choice of food for meant stomach problems and less sleep than planned though. On Sunday morning I made the short metro journey from Colombia to Nuevos Ministerios where I changed to a commuter train. Via Atocha I then arrived at Zarzaquemeda station at 09.36. Leganés B play at Instalación Deportiva Butarque, which is the training camp for La Liga side CD Leganés. On my way to ID Butarque I spotted Estadio Municipal Butarque where I would attend CD Leganés v Real Betis later on today. The walk to the main entrance at the training camp took me 20 minutes but once I was told this was not the entrance for fans. The security guard pointed and said something about Vuelta and I continued my walk around the perimeter wall for another 5-6 minutes before eventually finding my entrance. Tercera División is the fourth level of the Spanish league pyramid. There are 18 different Tercera leagues and Leganés B v Navalcarnero was 3rd against 1st in group 7 (Madrid area). The ground used for Leganés B games has only one stand but with just over a thousand seats that stand is more than enough for this level. Behind the north end there was a cafeteria which offered all kind of food and drinks (including wine). 10.30 is probably the earliest ever kick-off for me and in total around 300 fans were present. The weather in Madrid was to be glorious today but at 10.30 it was still a bit chilly. Leganés fans present at the match were warmed by their young team’s performance though. They beat the league leaders 2-0 and both teams will be involved in the battle for promotion.
