Last weekend was the last matchday in the lower leagues (division 3 to 6) and at Åvallen in Marieholm it was 2nd (Marieholms IS) v 1st (Lunds BoIS) and I was planning on visiting this exciting final game in Division 6 Sydvästra. Unfortunately storm Amy arrived on Saturday and watching football in heavy rain and very strong winds was not something I was looking forward to. There was also a risk the game would be moved from the grass pitch at Åvallen to an artificial pitch in Eslöv and I decided to stay at home. Marieholms IS finished 2nd meaning they would play at home this Saturday against IFK Rössjöhom in the Division 5 play-offs. The first leg was played on Wednesday evening and ended 2-1 to Marieholm. As I made it to Marieholm, just over an hour by car, it was glorious weather in Kristianstad but in Marieholm it was cloudy and no signs of the sun. No rain though and my headcount gave around 150 spectators for the return leg of this round 1 play-off game. Åvallen in Marieholm has a covered main stand but also an open small stand on the other side and for a ground at level 8 in Sweden it is really nice!

IFK Rössjöholm needed to win today to have a chance of progressing to round 2 next weekend. They brought quite a few away fans and all in all a proper play-off atmosphere inside Åvallen. 0-0 at half-time but with 11 minutes to go Marieholm broke the dead-lock to make it 1-0. Soon after it was 2-0 and game over for IFK Rössjöholm. In the 2nd and final round the coming two weekends Marieholm will play KSF Srbija from Malmö for a spot in next season's Division 5.
