Midtjylland

Ground: MCH Arena

Visits: 1

Date: 28th July 2013

Match: Midtjylland - FC København  1-0  (Superligaen)

Attendance: 8 759

In 1999 Herning Fremad merged with Ikast and formed a new club, FC Midtjylland. The club started in the Danish second division but was promoted to Superligaen at their first attempt. The club play at MCH Arena which is situated near the Messecenter in southern Herning. Capacity is around 11 500 with 7 400 seats. The ground is quite similar to Vejle Stadion where I watched Vejle vs Vendsyssel on Sunday afternoon. The main stand is for sponsors/VIP only and this seem to be the case for most new grounds in Denmark. The home supporters have a a fully terraced West Stand or an all-seated South Stand to choose from. Visiting fans stand are in the (southern half) East Stand.

With Midtjylland playing against FC København (FCK) at 7pm on Sunday evening I could attend two matches this day. I left Vejle Stadion as quickly as possible as was outside MCH Arena round 17.45. Being close to the motorway MCH Arena is very easy to get to by car. Behind the South Stand there is a huge free car-park which I used. As I was walking outside the ground I spotted a man wearing a Hammarby shirt. When I (in Swedish) asked how come a Hammarby fan was at this match it turned out he was a German groundhopper wearing a shirt of a club he likes. We talked a bit before I passed the turnstyle and entered the ground for some pictures. As kick-off approached the stand I was sitting in filled up and someone said it was completely sold-out. The opposite stand, the one for sponsors, were only half-full though. This was the second match of the season in the Danish Superligaen and with FCK losing their opening match it was interesting to see what would happen in this match. Former Sweden international Olof Mellberg signed for FCK a couple of weeks ago and he played the full 90 minutes for FCK. It was another Swedish player, Petter Andersson, who would make the headlines though. He scored the opening goal in the 10th minute and after 45 minutes I have to say Midtjylland deserved to be 1-0 up. In the second half FCK created several chances but failed to find the net. The match ended 1-0 to Midtjylland after two rounds FCK are the only team in Superligaen without a point. After the match I ran to my car and I could leave Herning without too many problems. I was back home 01.30 but with very little traffic it was an uncomplicated drive through Denmark.
