OdenseGround: Fionia Park Visits: 1 Date: 19th July 2008 Match: Odense - Aston Villa 2-2 (UEFA Intertoto Cup) Attendance: 11 353
When the draw for the 3rd round of the Intertoto Cup was made and Aston Villa were to visit neighbouring Denmark my brother (Villa fan) and I decided to go to the match in Odense, the birth town of H.C Andersen and situated on the island of Fyn. Travelling to Odense is quite easy, around 3,5 hours by train from home and with only one change. We arrived shortly after 1 pm and after checking in at our hotel we visited the old city, including H.C Andersen´s House and an outdoor theater before having something to eat and drink. Some hours later there was heavy rain coming down but fortunately it stopped just in time for the 25 minute walk to the stadium. Fionia Park has been redeveloped recently and the capacity for UEFA matches are 14,000. For the visit of Aston Villa more than 11,000 turned up, including 6-700 Villa fans. The match ended 2-2 and even if Odense equalised with only a couple of minutes to go I think Aston Villa should be pleased with a draw. Odense had most of the chances in the second half but have to improve in front of goal if they are to have any chance of progressing further.
