Rågsved

Ground: Hagsätra Idrottsplats

Visits: 1

Date: 2nd June 2023

Match: Rågsved - IFK Haninge  0-1  (Division 2 Södra Svealand)

Attendance: 139

In my bid to re-complete Division 1 Norra I looked at when IFK Stocksund played at home. The first weekend of June they hosted Umeå FC and when I realised I could do four games over the weekend I decided to book a trip to Stockholm. At 12.01 on Friday afternoon my first train of the day left Kristianstad and with a delay of 30 minutes I arrived in Stockholm 5h 10 min later. Last time I was in Stockholm it was Pride and this weekend it was time for the marathon. Major events mean expensive hotel rooms in the city centre and as was the case last August I decided to book Motel L in Hammarby Sjöstad. Since two of my games were in southern Stockholm it actually made sense to stay in the southern parts of Stockholm though. First up on this trip was Rågsved v IFK Haninge at Hagsätra IP in Division 2 Södra Svealand. Kick-off was at 8pm meaning despite the delayed train I still had plenty of time to check-in, get something to eat before making it to the ground.

Rågsved v IFK Haninge was not only my first game of the weekend, it was also the opening match of this year’s Swedish Hop. Normally I am the only groundhopper at level 4-matches in Sweden but tonight was a different story. With 10 English hoppers present I was not even in the top 5 when it comes to visited grounds. The organiser is Kim Hedwall and it was nice to meet up with him again. Laurence Reade was of course present as well and he has actually been to more grounds in Sweden than in Scotland! We chatted for a while and after a while Joel Segerdahl showed up as well. Joel is a journalist working for Discovery who makes excellent documentaries about football and he was invited by Laurence. Having seen some of his documentaries, I praised him for their high quality and I chatted with him for quite a while as well.

The ground itself was, at least for this level, ok. The pitch is artificial and there are running tracks at Hagsätra IP but there is a decently sized stand. From the top of that stand you have a good view of the action though. There was actually action in the stand as well, a group of youths set off flares and threw mini-bangers. The police showed up and restored calm at Hagsätra IP. IFK Haninge played in division 1 last season and I guess they are aiming for promotion this season. IFK Haninge won by the only goal tonight but it was hardly an impressive performance. Rågsved are rock bottom and need to improve if they want to avoid relegation to division 3. At 22.30 I was back at my hotel and a long day came to an end.
