SävedalenGround: Vallhamra Idrottsplats Visits: 1 Date: 29th April 2016 Match: Sävedalen - Torslanda 1-1 (Division 2 Västra Götaland) Attendance: 105
I haven´t attended a match at Gamla Ullevi in Gothenburg since 2009. One of the matches back then was the opening match, Örgryte vs GAIS, at the rebuilt ground. Örgryte have since then been relegated and promoted several times and I have been unable to visit the reversed derby. Once the fixture list for 2016 was published and the GAIS vs Örgryte derby was to played at Valborgsmässoafton (30 April) I decided to go to Gothenburg over the weekend and looked at other games I could go to. Sävedalen play at Vallhamra IP in (eastern) Gothenburg and with Sävedalen´s home game against Torslanda being scheduled for 19.00 the choice was quite easy. It takes me around three hours to drive to Gothenburg and I was at my hotel around 18.30. Check-in went smoothly and 20 minutes later I was at Vallhamra IP. The weather forecast said rain and 8-9 °C. Not exactly ideal weather when you are watching football on a Friday evening! As I entered the ground it was cloudy and windy but no rain. Vallhamra Idrottsplats is part of a sporting complex with artificial pitches, an indoor arena as well as an ice-hockey arena. The football ground is very basic with running tracks and no proper stands. There is a grass bank in the south side of the ground and thankfully the indoor arena protects you from the wind when standing on this grass bank.
Sävedalen were promoted from Division 3 last season and have started the 2016 season really well with. Before the game they had two wins and a draw earning them second place in the table. The conditions this Friday evening were difficult and at half-time it was 0-0. The second half was better than the first and Sävedalen took control of the game. It was the visitors who would score the first goal though. A counter-attack in the 63rd minute meant it was suddenly 0-1. Sävedalen then threw everything at the Torslanda goal and in the 78th minute Sävedalen equalized from the penalty spot. Despite several really good chanced Torslanda held on for an undeserved point, 1-1 at Vallhamra IP. Tomorrow I will meet up with my friends Magnus and Christian and hopefully it will be an excellent atmosphere at Gamla Ullevi.
