Sillhövda AIK

Ground: Bredasjön IP

Visits: 1

Date: 22nd April 2023

Match: Sillhövda AIK - Karlshamn United  2-1  (Division 4 Blekinge)

Attendance: 120

As I was looking for fixtures to attend this weekend I first looked at games in Division 4 Skåne Sydvästra. The match I intended to visit, Kosova v Malmö IK, was moved to another ground and I looked elsewhere. In the end my choice was to be Sillhövda v Karlshamn United in Division 4 Blekinge. Despite the nice weather recently some games are still moved to artificial pitches but looking at Sillhövda´s Facebook I was assured it was indeed to be played at Bredasjön IP in Holmsjö. Holmsjö is situated 30 km north of Karlskrona and from Kristianstad it is around 90 minutes by car. Kick-off was at 2pm and 45 minutes or so prior to kick-off I parked my car outside the ground.

Sillhövda Allmänna Idrottsklubb (abbreviated SAIK) was founded on 28 December 1967 following the merger of the Saleboda IF and Holmsjö IF clubs. In recent years the club has been playing in Division 4 Blekinge but it is actually not the football club itself that has put Holmsjö on the footballing map. Martin Hansson is a former Swedish FIFA referee and he lives in Holmsjö. His most famous international match is probably the World Cup play-off between France and Ireland when Thierry Henry used his hand. As I was entering the ground I actually noticed Martin Hansson and he said Hello to me, a nice welcome! The ground is nicely situated next to the lake Bredasjön and with it being 17 degrees and sunny this afternoon I was really looking forward to watching football in these nice conditions.

Two years ago I watched Karlshamn United in division 3 and I guess they want to be promoted back to that league. Sillhövda scored twice in the 1st half though and it was to be an uphill battle for the visitors. Karlshamn United managed to pull a goal back but with two players (and a coach) being sent off it was difficult for them to equalize. 2-1 to Sillhövda and a great day out for me!
