ViborgGround: Viborg Arena Visits: 1 Date: 27th July 2015 Match: Viborg - AGF 0-0 (Superligaen) Attendance: 6 318
The Monday match in Superligaen was Viborg FF against Aarhus GymnastikForening (AGF). Being kind of a derby I knew there would be a good away following at this match and that is of course something I prefer when I visit a new ground. Viborg was around 2 hours driving from Esbjerg and around 1 pm I arrived at my hotel in Viborg. Having eaten breakfast quite late I wasn´t that hungry and instead I finished off my book. I asked the reception at the hotel for a nice restaurant and they suggested a Chinese restaurant situated in the same building as the venue for tonight´s game, Viborg Arena. That sounded like a good idea to me! It was a 30-minute walk to the ground but with light rain coming down I drove to the ground where I took a few exterior pictures. Viborg Stadion was opened in 1931 but was rebuilt in 2001/2. The ground has a capacity of around 10 000 and the stadium feels box-like with four identical stands. There is a small terraced area for away fans but otherwise the ground is all-seated. After taking the pictures I wanted I had lunch at the restaurant before going back to my hotel for a rest.
Viborg FF were promoted at the end of last season but the 2015/16 is their 12th season in Superligaen. For a game against AGF I expect a bumper crowd. In the end it was 6 300 who turned up this Monday evening and for Viborg that is a very good attendance. My seat was in the West Stand and I had the AGF fans to my left. AGF brought around 1 000 fans to Viborg Stadion and as expected they gave their team a good vocal support throughout the 90 minutes. To be honest there wasn´t much to cheer about regarding this game. It was simply an awful game of football with very few chances. In the second half Viborg scored but that was ruled out for off-side. With 15 minutes to go AGF had a player sent off but Viborg despite playing with one man more Viborg weren´t even close to score the winning goal and the game finished 0-0. That meant my 36-match run without a 0-0 came to an end. Anyway this had been a good tour and I now only have 2 grounds (Hobro and AGF) left to complete Denmark´s top division in football. In 1. Divisionen I have four grounds left so maybe I will be able to complete the top two divisions in Denmark next summer.
